No actually it is false. Portal appears as a virus because it has the abilities to hook into other processes. Portal is POLYMORPHIC, so it cannot be reverse engineered by Gabe; and for other various security issues. This POLYMORPHIC CODE is very common in viruses, seeing as they have to get past an antivirus; much like the cheats have to get past VAC2 and PunkBuster undetected.

TL;DR It's not a virus, it just appears as one to some scanners because of it's polymorphic code.
