Eh, Don't really care for iPods. The only really good use I use out of them is for external HD Storage.

iShit.

You need iTunes just to put music on, and once it's on you cant get it off, it's encrypted.

iPod sucks hardcore!

....I must not understand what you are trying to say because you can take music off of an Ipod easily...

I had a Nomad Jukebox 1 and 3.

I never liked the 3rd one I bought. It was too clunky, the car mode didn't work, and the UI was just plain gay. I got the Jukebox I from a consumer electronics show for 50 bucks in the 90's. I miss that huge monstrosity that had the best UI ever.

I use my PSP as my MP3 player. Seeing as how I lug the damn thing around anyway.

My GPS is also a MP3 player, but it can't give directions while playing music. So that's fucking useless.

My dad has the Zen Portable Media Center thing. Shit sucks. Only can play Microsoft approved video. But the music player is alright, I guess.

nano vs classic things to consider

-physical size
-battery life
-capacity...do you want to carry around your whole collection or pretty much stuff you put in heavy rotation?

I have an 8gig touch and it suits me well. I really don't use the app SW much, but the wi-fi is nice to have. If I didn't really care about wi-fi I would have gone with the Nano.

Ipod Classic - Breaks after 3 days.
Ipod Classic Replacement - Breaks after 2 weeks
Second Replacement - Breaks after 1 week, was unable to return it due to excessive wall-smash related damage.

I bought that thing with vouchers but it still pissed me off that something that i purchased didn't serve its intended purpose.

Get another Zen.

I know that there are free alternatives out there. I find Anapod Explorer to be extremely useful for IPOD owners. I'm an owner of a Nano and a 4th gen IPOD. It's great, it seamlessly integrates into Explorer and it's all drag and drop. If you dual boot and run Ubuntu or some other Linux flavor, then I suggest checking out something like Exaile (GNOME/GTK) or Amarok (KDE/QT)

Here is one of the screenshots of Anapod Explorer.
